Indian food is already full of flavour and goodness, and you know what will make it even better? Cheese! Cheese makes great dishes even better. Whether it’s a deep-fried oozing cheese finger or a subtly creamy steamed cheese momo, there are a wide range of delights waiting to be sampled. Here are 3 cheesy Indian snacks you must try.
Cheese Fingers - Serves 8
Prep time 10, Cooking time 20 minutes
This cheesy delight is easy to make, an amazing party snack and most importantly a tasty snack! Containing the goodness of cheese, potato and the goodness of veggies, this dish will be the party stopper. It is deep-fried until golden brown. Although there are other cheese fingers, these are more fulfilling and flavourful.

Mozzarella Sticks
Ingredients
Quantity | Ingredients |
2 | Eggs, beaten |
2 cups | Flour |
6-8 | Cheese block, sliced |
1/2 cup | Breadcrumbs |
3 cups | Peas |
3 | Potatoes |
1 tbsp | Schezwan sauce |
1 tsp | Chilli powder |
Method
- Set the peas and potatoes to boil on a pan. After they are soft, peel the skin of the potatoes and then mash them together.
- Add the Chili Powder, Schezwan sauce, salt, and pepper to the bowl and mix them well together. Now you take your mozzarella stick and coat the stick with the potatoes and peas mixture.
- Now, in 2 separate bowls take the breadcrumbs and 2 beaten eggs.
- Give the coated sticks an egg wash and cover them in breadcrumbs.
- When all your sticks are nicely coated, you can deep fry them until golden brown and enjoy!
Cheese Momos - Serves 8
Prep Time 45 minutes, Cooking time 15-20 minutes
Momos are a beloved street food finding its origins in Tibetan and Nepali cuisine, the tasty and cheesy delight are fulfilling and can be made at home.

Ingredients

200 gms | Block cheese, grated |
300 gms | Spinach, shredded |
1 tbsp | Ginger garlic paste |
2 tbsp | Butter/ghee, melted |
To taste | Salt |
For Dough | |
3 cups | Wheat flour |
2 - 3 cups | Water |
As needed | Oil |
Method
- Knead the dough by adding water little by little and set it aside for 20 minutes.
- While the dough is getting ready make the filling. Boil the finely chopped spinach and cabbage with a little bit of salt.
- Add the spinach, cabbage and the grated cheese and mix well.
- This part is a little tricky, take small pieces of the dough and roll them out, make sure the centre is thicker than the edges.
- Roll them out with a rolling pin and then part by part, roll the edges out, keeping the middle thick. This should increase the size of the wrapping dough.
- Add the filling and pleat the Momo.
- Now you can steam the Momo for 15-20 minutes and have fun!
Cheese Pakora - Serves 10

Cheese lovers will appreciate the blissful existence of cheese in any dish. Who doesn’t love pakoras? Nothing seems more comforting than experiencing the cheese melting in your mouth with every bite.

Cheese Pakora
Ingredients

1/2 cup | Gram flour (besan) |
1 pinch | Baking soda |
1 pinch | Asafoetida (hing) |
1/2 tsp | Chilli powder |
1/4 tsp | Turmeric |
4-5 tbsp | Water |
1/2 tsp | Sesame seeds |
1/4 tsp | Coriander seeds |
1/4 tsp | Black pepper |
125 gms | Cheese block, cubed |
As needed | Oil |
To taste | Salt and pepper |
For kneading | Flour and water |
Method
- In a mixing bowl, add besan, coriander seeds, black pepper, baking soda, asafoetida, sesame seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt and water. Give it a good mix.
- Mix all the ingredients until thick. Remember the batter should be lump-free.
- Next, heat oil for deep frying and take cheese cubes, cut them in two parts and keep them aside.
- Gently add 4-5 drops of hot oil in the batter and mix well. Place the halved cheese cube in the batter and coat it evenly.
- Gently place the batter-coated cheese cube in the hot oil and fry on medium heat. Don’t forget to turn the sides of the pakoras and fry them until crisp and golden brown.
- Gently remove the pakoras and place them on butter paper to soak the excess oil. Sprinkle chaat masala and pair your pakoras with ketchup, green or red chutney. Serve hot and enjoy!
